Milan welcome Genoa to Stadio San Siro on Friday night as both teams are looking for the points for different reasons. Stefano Pioli's men are first on the table, two points ahead of the second-placed Inter, who have a game in hand. The actual form is not at desired level, two draws in the last two rounds. Milan shared the points with Bologna and Torino, but that mean they dropped four points. What is worse, they failed to score a single goal on the mentioned two games. The Rossoneri had 47 shots on goal on these games, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Milan are between the most successful teams in Italy, but they haven't won a title in the past 10 years. Coach Stefano Pioli has some issues ahead of this match. Seven players are sidelined through injury, including the key forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ismael Bennacer, Samu Castillejo, Ante Rebic and Alessio Romagnoli are all out with muscle injuries, while Alessandro Florenzi and Simon Kjaer are long-term injury victims. Pioli is unlikely to make too many changes to his starting lineup, so Olivier Giroud should lead the line once again, suppoted by Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz and Alexis Saelemaekers.
Genoa are second from the bottom with only 22 points. The situation looks critical and the next few games are very important. However, the actual form is poor - Genoa have suffered two defeats on the last two matches in Serie A. They lost 1:0 to Verona and 4:1 to Lazio at home. The positive thing is they were unbeaten on the previous eight matches. The atmosphere in the squad is poor following the last defeats. At the same time, the players confidence is surely low at the moment. Interesting to be mentioned, Genoa have identical home and away records in Serie A this season after 32 matches. They have only two victories, against Torino at home, and Cagliari on road. The Rossoblu are three points adrift of safety with six games remaining. Some of them are more difficult, like this one. Nevertheless, Genoa managed to surprise Milan at San Siro in March 2020, so nothing is impossible. Coach Alexander Blessin will be without six injured players - Zinho Vanheusden, Andrea Cambiaso, Lennart Czyborra, Nicolo Rovella, Stefano Sturaro and Riccardo Calafiori. The veteran striker Mattia Destro, who has scored just twice in 2022, will be particularly motivated to impress against his old club.
AC Milan vs Genoa Prediction:
I expect Under 2.5 goals at San Siro. Milan failed to score a single goal on the last two matches. Genoa, meanwhile, will try to remain unbeaten with a simple tactic known as 'catenaccio'. The Rossoblu have scored just twice in the last six games. Considering these facts, I think there will be no more than two goals.
