West Ham will welcome their London rivals Arsenal to the London Stadium on Sunday. The Hammers will try to register a double over the title-pretenders, but the Gunners are full of confidence after a 3:1 win against the leaders Liverpool last weekend. On contrary, David Moyes' men suffered a high 3:0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford. West Ham now sit seventh with 36 points, but need points from this match to avoid further dropping. The current form isn't bad, they had three wins and three draws prior to the mentioned defeat in Manchester. It will be difficult against high-flying Arsenal, but the home advantage should not be underestimated - only Manchester City and Everton have left West Ham's turf with three points so far this season. Moyes is optimist about home form, but the manager has some worries ahead of this match. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola sustained a head injury in a collision with Kurt Zouma and was replaced by Fabianski. The Frenchman is rated as doubtful, but Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio remain sidelined with a calf and knee injury respectively. Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips will probably make his debut in front of the Irons fans.
Arsenal beat Liverpool 3:1 at the Emirats last week and showed they are still in the race for the title. Arteta's men were in some sort of crisis in the last period as they suffered three defeats around New Year. However, three victories on the last three matches changed the situation. The success over Liverpool is extremely important. The players entered the match fully motivated and outplayed the Reds. Bukayo Saka opened the result, but Gabriel Magalhaes netted a comical own goal to bring Liverpool level. Nevertheless, the defender surely slept well as his mistake became insignificant after a shocking mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker. Gabriel Martinelli scored an empty net for 2:1. To be easier for Arsenal, Ibrahima Konate was sent off and Leandro Trossard scored the third goal. The Belgian winger isn't a regular, but his contribution is significant. Trossard is averaging a goal or assist every 99 minutes for Arsenal in the Premier League. Only Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie have a better record among players to have played at least 1,000 minutes for the club. Arteta has three injury worries ahead of this match. Gabriel Jesus is doubtful with a knee injury, Bukayo Saka has an ankle issue, while Oleksandr Zinchenko came off at half time against the Reds with another calf injury. Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Fabio Vieira are long-term absentees.
West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction:
Arsenal beat Liverpool last week and the players confidence is high. The Gunners will go for another victory here, but it won't be easy. West Ham have already beaten Arsenal twice this season, winning 3:1 in the EFL Cup in November and then 2:0 at the Emirates in December. The Hammers will try to register a hat-trick against the city rivals, but I think the guests will win. It will be a catastrophe if they lose.
