You already know that the best betting software loves to explore the weird world of sports, and today we will talk about the world cup! Literally!!

Made of 18-carat gold and hollow inside, the trophy of the world football championship, the World Cup, stands 36.5 centimeters tall, weighs 6.175 kilograms and its estimated price is $244,699.60 USD. That figure considers only the material. Its value, which includes design and symbology, is US$17 million.

Since it was used for the first time in 1974, the victorious teams do not take the original cup to their countries, but a replica made of bronze and gold-plated, provided by the highest institution of football itself.

The current FIFA World Cup Cup Trophy was produced by the Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga, who worked for the Stabilimento Artístico Bertoni Company. It was designed in 1971 and depicts two athletes ascending a spiral towards the representation of the globe.

The origin of the cup

The cup is quite emblematic. The first trophy given to World Cup winners was named Jules Rimet, after the former FIFA President, who was responsible for organizing the first World Cup in 1930.

It was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur. The cup was 35 centimeters high and weighed 3.8 kilograms. It was made of gold-plated silver and its base was produced in lapis lazuli stone, while the image represented Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.

FIFA's initial proposal was that the trophy would be in transitory possession, remaining permanently for the country that won the World Cup three times first, a feat achieved by Brazil in 1970. Unfortunately, it was stolen in 1983 from the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in Rio de Janeiro.

Four men were convicted of the crime, but the trophy was never recovered. It is believed to have been melted down for later sale. Since 1984, a replica has been kept at CBF's headquarters.

Interestingly, this was not the only theft of the Jules Rimet. In the 1960s, it was stolen in England, but later found by a dog named Pickles wrapped in newspapers and dumped in bushes in south London.

Since 1971, the World Cup Cup Cup has had its design executed by the Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga. His project was part of a worldwide contest among 53 artists from seven countries. Unlike the Jules Rimet, the new trophy is only a temporary possession, and no one can keep it permanently.

At each edition of the world championship, the name of the winner and the year are engraved on the base, always in the language of the winning country. Its estimated value, due to the characteristics of the piece, is US$ 161 thousand, however, the USA Today newspaper requested an appraisal that contemplated, in addition to the materials, its exclusive design and cultural value. Then, the cup was estimated at more than $ 17 million.

It is expected to be retired after the 2038 FIFA World Cup? The reason is that the base only holds seventeen names and years. Rumour has it that FIFA will keep the trophy in its museum permanently, but there is no information about a new cup design.

I hope you liked this short little piece, and if you did, stay tuned because bettingsoftware.com will be back soon with more great content for you!
