Elfsborg will welcome Roma to the Boras Arena on Thursday night. Both teams are winless after the first round of UEFA Eurropa League. Elfsborg suffered a 3:2 defeat to Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar and that is why this match is very important for the Swedish outfit. They failed to impress in Netherlands and had just three shots on target, but scored two goals through Timothy Ouma and Simon Hedlund. Coach Oscar Hiljemark could be satisfied with the fact his players scored twice, but he is well aware of the fact his defense was not at desired level. Elfsborg had 2:2 in the second half, but conceded the third goal from a penalty in the 74th minute. The Boras-based club sit on the fifth place in Allsvenskan following the weekend win over Kalmar. The final result was 3:1, despite the early goal they conceded in the fourth minute. Hiljemark has just one worry ahead of this match as Sebastian Holmen is suspended after being sent off against AZ Alkmaar. Ghanaian striker Michael Baidoo should lead the line. He is in nice form in the competition having registered six goal involvements during Europa League qualifications. He also scored against Kalmar four days ago and I think his confidence is high.

As I wrote above, Roma shared the points with Athletic Bilbao in the first round. The Giallorossi scored first through summer-signing Artem Dovbyk, but the Basks equalized in the finish of the match. Roma have dropped two points, but the draw was acceptable. Having on mind the chaotic situation connect with Daniele De Rossi's departure, I think the overall results under new boss Ivan Juric are not bad at all. Roma won both domestic fixtures, 3:0 against Udinese and 2:1 against Venezia on Sunday. Two victories and one draw, with six goals scored and two conceded, should be enough Ivan Juric to establish himself as head boss and the ultras to accept him. I am not sure how good is the atmosphere in the squad, but I am positive the players confidence is high. But Juric has decided to rest two key players and I think the absence of Paulo Dybala and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is a handicap. Furthermore, key defender Gianluca Mancini is sidelined after picking up a knock against Venezia. Alexis Saelemaekers is also out injured, while goalkeeper Mile Svilar and striker Artem Dovbyk could start from the bench.

Elfsborg vs Roma Prediction:

I think Elfsborg could upset Roma. The Swedish outfit are in solid attacking form, scoring five goals on the last two matches against AZ Alkmaar in Europe and Kalmar in Allsvenskan. Roma, meanwhile, will be missing three very important players - defender Gianluca Mancini, midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini and forward Paulo Dybala. According to some sources, goalkeeper Mile Svilar and striker Artem Dovbyk could be rested too. It looks like coach Ivan Juric is prioritizing the upcoming Serie A fixture against Monza. Elfsborg could take advantage from that situation and to remain unbeaten.
