Torino and city rivals Juventus play out the 159th "Derby della Mole" in Serie A on Saturday. The game is also known as the "Derby di Torino" or the "Turin Derby" in English. It is named after the Mole Antonelliana, a major landmark in the city and the architectural symbol of the Piedmontese capital. It is the first derby of Italian football and the oldest ongoing meeting between two teams based in the same city in Italy. Juventus, founded in 1897 by students of a prestigious high school in Turin, soon became akin to the bourgeois in the town especially after enduring bond with the Agnelli family, which began in 1923, during which time they were also supported by the aristocracy of the region. Torino instead was born in 1906 from a division within Juventus, at the hands of dissidents who joined forces with another team from the city (FC Torinese), who identified with the then-early industrial world. Now about the match.

Torino are in the middle of the table with 21 points, eleven less than Juventus. The actual form is mixed, one win, three draws and one defeat on the last five matches. In the first match in 2025, Paolo Vanoli's men played a goalless draw with newly-promoted Parma. Torino also shared the points in their last match of 2024, playing a 2:2 draw with Udinese. Vanoli has four injury worries ahead of this derby. Perr Schuurs and Duvan Zapata are definitely sidelined due to injury, while Saul Coco and Samuele Ricci are both rated as doubtful. Che Adams - the club leading scorer with five goals - is expected to lead the line.

Juventus are fifth on the table, huge 12 points behind the leaders Napoli. The fans are not satisfied as they were expecting Juve to be involved in the Scudetto fight. The Old Lady are unbeaten after 18 rounds, but drew most of the matches (11). Coach Thiago Motta is feeling a big pressure, particularly after the failure in Supercoppa Italiana semifinal in Saudi Arabia. As You probably know, the Bianconerri were eliminated by Milan. Motta has some additional issues as Dusan Vlahovic and Francisco Conceicao are rated as doubtful due to muscular and thigh injury. Manuel Locatelli must serve a suspension, while Arkadiusz Milik, Bremer and Juan Cabal are long term absentees.

Torino vs Juventus Prediction:

As I wrote above, this will be the 159th "Derby della Mole" in Serie A. Overall, Juve have won the derby 77 times and Torino have won it 35 times. There have been 46 draws and I expect one more. The Old Lady are favorites and I am sure they will try to win, but Torino have improved in the last period. The Granata have just one defeat on the last five matches and I expect to remain unbeaten again.

Bologna will welcome Roma to Stadio Renato Dal'Ara on Sunday evening. The hosts were the biggest surprise last season. The experts were predicting Bologna to be involved into the relegation battle, however, ex-coach Thiago Motta did a great job and secured the Champions League football. The results this season are not at the same level, but don't forget coach Motta and key player Zirkzee left the club during the summer. On top of that, Bologna are not used to play twice a week. The current form is mixed, they lost 3:2 to Verona in the last round, but previously registered two victories against Torino and Fiorentina. The current coach Vincenzo Italiano has some issues ahead of this match. Tommaso Pobega is sidelined by suspension, so either Lewis Ferguson or Nikola Moro should replace him in the midfield. Oussama El Azzouzi and Nicolo Cambiaghi have both returned to training after long absence, while this match comes too soon for Swiss midfielder Michel Aebischer.

Roma will start New 2025 with hopes that old 2024 will never repeat. In January Jose Mourinho was sacked as Roma coach and replaced by the club's former captain Daniele de Rossi. Mourinho led Roma to the Europa Conference League title a year later and the Europa League final. Just eight months later De Rossi was also sacked and replaced by Ivan Juric, but the angry fans reacted furious. They had shown up at Roma's Trigoria looking for the club CEO Lina Souloukou. Feared for her safety, she resigned and left the Italian Capital. Under-pressure-coach Juric also left the club few weeks later. The club officials decided Claudio Ranieri to be appointed as coach until the end of the season. Ranieri loves the club and he couldn't say No, even the call came six months after announcing his retirement. Bologna coach Italiano praised his work: "Ranieri came in, fixed things, won the derby, and now he’s got a high level team at his disposal. He’s also got Paulo Dybala who can light up a game at any time." The atmosphere in the club is very good following a 2:0 win in Derby Della Capitale. Most of his players are ready, only Zeki Celik is rated as doubtful.

Bologna vs Roma Prediction:

I expect both teams to score here. Bologna have found the back of the net on each of the last five matches in Serie A. Riccardo Orsolini are in great form, he has been directly involved in six goals in his last eight league appearances. Roma are also in fine form, they managed to score 12 goals on the last five matches, so the players confidence is higher. Furthermore, Dybala love to play against the Rossoblu - he has registered seven Serie A strikes against Bologna to date. Best of all, and he rediscover his form after playing a part in four goals across his last three league games.
