They are in good form with a two-match winning streak. Now they are sitting the eighth in the table of the League, getting 8W-4D-5L so far. Bu they do not play well as host, which have 37% winning percentage.
Undoubtedly they are the top team. At present, they are sitting the third place in the table of the League with 34 points, only 6 points away from the first. They will rank the top as long as they have got two more wins.
Lazio get 3W-3D-4L from AS Roma in the past. The Asian handicap first odd is AS Roma -0.25. The Euro odds is 2.86-3.57-2.35. It is believed that AS Roma are going to win.
This is "Derby della Capitale", a match between Lazio and Roma. According to locals, this derby is "much more than just a game." The Roman derby has been the scene of several actions related to the political views of the fan bases. Lazio's ultras often use fascist symbols on their banners and they have displayed racist behavior in several occasions during the derbies. Most notably at a derby of the season 1998/99 when laziali unfurled a 50-metre banner around the Curva Nord that read, "Auschwitz is your town, the ovens are your houses". In 2000 Lazio fans showed their support for Serbian nationalist and war criminal Zeljko Raznjatovic - Arkan. Officially, the club has distanced itself from these fans, who make up a minority, and fights to combat these kind of actions. As a result Roma fans are sometimes incorrectly depicted as left wing, when in fact both clubs' ultras have right wing ideologies. Roma fans have also been known to hold up racist banners from time to time.
Here are few interesting statistical information. The first derby was played on 8 December 1929, and finished 1:0 for Roma. The first goalscorer was Rodolfo Volk. Lazio won its first derby almost three years later, on 23 October 1932. The highest victory in a derby was the 5:0 win of Roma during the season 1933/34. However, Lazio holds the record of the most victories in a single season - four during the season 1997/98. The two sides have met twice in Serie A and twice in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Lazio won 3:1 and 2:0 in the league, and 4:1 and 2:1 in the cup. In one occasion the derby was played as a Coppa Italia Final, on 26 May 2013. Lazio won 1:0 thanks to Senad Lulic's goal. Francesco Totti is the all-time top scorer in the Derby della Capitale with 11 goals.
Now about the match. Lazio are on the 8th place with 28 points. The actual form is good, they have won the last two matches. Fiorentina were beaten at Olimpico 2:1 thanks to the goals scored by Felipe Caicedo and Ciro Immobile. In the last round Lazio beat Parma with 2:0. Luis Alberto and Felipe Caicedo got the goals for a comfortable victory. The Biancocelesti are just five points from the Champions League spots and that is why this derby is very important. Coach Simone Inzaghi has some injury worries ahead of the match. Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is sidelined due to a thigh injury, but that shouldn't be a big problem as Pepe Reina is very experienced. Captain Senad Lulic, is nearing a full recovery after an ankle surgery, but this match comes too soon for him. Finally, Mohamed Fares is struggling with a calf injury and he is rated as doubtful. On the positive note, Inzaghi will have Joaquin Correa back for the derby. Tuttomercatoweb reports that Correa worked in the group before he finished off with individual work. At the end I will mention that President Claudio Lotito and Ciro Immobile met Pope Francis in a private audience to mark Lazio's 121st birthday.
Roma are on the third place with 34 points. The actual form is good, two wins and one draw on the last three matches in Serie A played in 2021. First they beat Sampdoria with 1:0 at Olimpico. The victory was secured in the final 20 minutes thanks to Edin Dzeko's strike. The match was played in hard weather conditions. The heavy rain and horribly soaked pitch produced big problems to the players, but Roma found a way to secure the victory. In the next match Paulo Fonseca's men outplayed Crotone. The match was decided in the first half thanks to the Spanish striker Borja Mayoral who scored twice in a rare league start, while Mkhitaryan scored the third. On Sunday the Giallorossi played an entertaining 2:2 draw with Inter. It is not easy to evaluate the result which could equally be interpreted either as a point saved or an opportunity squandered. For this match Fonseca has some injury concerns as Pedro and goalkeeper Antonio Mirante remain sidelined, plus long-term absentees Javier Pastore and Nicolo Zaniolo. At the end I will mention that Stephan El Shaarawy could return to Roma. The 28-year-old joined Shanghai for €16m in July 2019 but has struggled to adapt to Chinese football. Sky Sport Italia reports that Roma are working to bring the winger back to the Olimpico this winter.
Lazio vs Roma Prediction:
The derbies between Lazio and Roma usually offers goals. Six of the last eight mutual games have produced goals on both sides. Lazio need the victory to remain in touch with the European spots, so I expect an offensive approach from Inzaghi. Roma won't defend, that's clear. Juventus, Atalanta and Napoli are just behind, plus all three teams have a match in hand. According to me, the draw isn't good enough for both teams. As conclusion, I expect an open match. Both Lazio and Roma are in good form, the players confidence is high, so there should be goals.
