Saturday lunchtime - just after the international break - isn't the perfect time for this derby, though Manchester City will welcome Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium for top-of-the-table Premier League clash. The Citizens are first with 28 points and it seems they are still hungry for trophies. Pep Guardiola is doing a fantastic job and the fans are pleased. Last season they finally won the Champions League, the only missing trophy. City are dominating the Premier League, winning the trophy five times in the last six years. Of course, they are main favorites again. The actual form is very good, five wins and one draw on the last six matches across all competitions. Man City beat Brighton, Man United, Bournemouth and Young Boys (twice), while played a 4:4 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The players confidence is high, but there are some injury worries for Pep. Key striker Erling Haaland withdraw from the Norway camp over the international break due to an ankle injury, but the best scorer is widely expected to be available for selection. Nathan Ake, Matheus Nunes and Ederson are all rated as doubtful and they will have to be assessed on Saturday. However, Mateo Kovacic and John Stones are definitely ruled out, as well as long-term injury victim Kevin De Bruyne.
The Reds have collect 27 points from a possible 36 on offer in the English top flight and they sit on the second place, one point behind the reigning champions. Liverpool are also doing well in Europe with three wins from four matches. Jurgen Klopp's men are on the verge of securing their place in the knock-out phase of the Europa League. But the away form isn't at desired level. Liverpool have a perfect home record, but dropped 9 points on road. They suffered a controversial defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, while played draw on three other occasions - against Chelsea, Brighton and Luton Town. Before the international break they beat 3:0 Brentford, as a Mohamed Salah brace preceded a fine Diogo Jota strike. The late arrival of some players is a huge problem for the German coach. In addition, several players are injured. Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez missed the last matches for the club and national teams and they are both rated as doubtful. Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones are also injury doubts, while Andy Robertson, Thago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are definitely sidelined. The absence of Robertson is a huge handicap as Tsimikas isn't that good like the Scotish international.
Manchester City vs Liverpool Prediction:
The fixture is arguably the biggest clash in the Premier League as it is between the two most successful sides of the last few seasons. Manchester City destroyed Liverpool the last time they visited Etihad. The Citizens won 4:1 in April and they are looking for another victory. But City have not won consecutive league matches against Liverpool since 1937. Nevertheless, the actual Manchester City should not be compared with any previous City team. Pep Guardiola should also be mentioned, he is the best European coach. Maybe the Reds could upset City at Anfield, but not at Etihad. According to me, City will win the derby.
