Toulouse welcome Liverpool to Stadium Municipal on Thursday evening in one of the most interesting fixtures in Europa League. The Reds are on the first place in Group E with maximal 9 points, while the French outfit are sharing the second place with Union Royale from Belgium as both sides have four points. LASK Linz are pointless on the last position. Assuming that Union will beat the Austrian side, Toulouse coach Carles Martinez is feeling some pressure ahead of this match. Liverpool are arguably the main candidates for the trophy, but Les Violets must go for a positive result. The actual form is poor, Toulouse suffered painful defeats from Montpellier and newly-promoted Le Havre in domestic Ligue 1. The atmosphere in the squad is poor, while the players confidence is low. In addition, coach Martinez has three injury worries. Winger Zakaria Aboukhlal will skip the match due to a knee injury, while Oliver Zanden and Denis Genreau are also out of contention through a hip and back injury respectively.
The last season was very frustrating for Liverpool fans. The Reds finished as fifth in the Premier League and failed to secure a Champions League spot, so they play in Europe League now. The start of the actual season was very good, until the last weekend. Liverpool have visited the newcomers Luton Town, arguably one of the worst clubs in the division. The fans and pundits were expecting an easy victory, however the reality was quite different. The Reds missed few good opportunities and were stunned by a late Tahith Chong breakaway goal. Liverpool were lucky to escape the defeat as Luis Diaz equalized the result during the stoppage time. It was an emotional moment as his father is still kidnapped in Colombia. Klopp showed huge frustrations during the match, especially when Darwin Nunez missed the empty goal. Most probably he will rest the majority of his key players, while four are injured - Andy Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are definitely out, while Curtis Jones, who skipped the match with Luton due to a "minor fitness issue" is rated as doubtful.
Toulouse vs Liverpool Prediction:
I expect both teams to score at Stadium Municipal. Toulouse are in must win situation, particularly because Union have a relatively easy match against bottom-placed LASK. The French outfit will be offensively oriented and I think they will score. Klopp will probably rest his regular defenders, starting from the goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Alexandar-Arnold, Konate and Van Dijk are also not expected to start, as well as injured Robertson. Liverpool, meanwhile, have scored on each game this season. The Reds are between the most efficient teams in Europe League, scoring 10 goals in the first three matches - only Bayer Leverkusen have more (11). Considering these facts, I expect an efficient match.
