The first semi-final of an ATP 500 tournament at Hamburg, Germany (clay). Two of the higher-ranked players for this tournament will face off against each other here. To have more insights on this ATP Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Alexander Zverev match please check out the preview below.
Nikoloz Basilashvili
16th ranked, 27 years old, Georgian stomped Jeremy Chardy at the quarter-final in straight sets (6-2; 6-3). It seemed like everything was working for Basilashvili in that match while Chardy couldn’t find his rhythm. This tournament has shown how well Basilashvili has recovered after some struggles lately and there is a good reason for that. Nikoloz is a defending champion this year as he’s won the title in 2018. Of course, last year’s opposition were strong as well, but this time he’s facing a Top 5 player who is playing at home court and the Georgian won’t be a favorite tomorrow for sure. However, Zverev has shown a lot of weak points today. So if Basilashvili manages to capitalize on them tomorrow he might really be able to reach the final once again.
Alexander Zverev
Still one of the youngest players on tour, only 22 years old and already 5th in the world, Alexander Zverev hadn’t had an easy way into the semi-final. After defeating N. Jarry and F. Delbonis in straight sets in first two rounds, he actually were really close to being eliminated against F. Krajinovic today. Zverev was down 5-3 in 2nd set after he lost the first one, but Krajinovic couldn’t capitalize and lost the set 5-7. Zverev didn’t leave any hopes for the Serbian in 3rd set and closed the match by winning the 3rd set 6-2. Even though he managed to come-back and win the match, his current form is still raising a lot of questions. It’s hard to tell if it’s enough to beat Basilashvili tomorrow, but Zverev has definitely shown better performance in order to win the title.
