Paris Saint-Germain welcome Newcastle United to Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening, as both teams are looking to reach the Champions League's knockout stage. All four teams in Group F - also known as "Group of Death" - are still fighting for progress and this match is very important, as well as the clash between Milan and Borussia Dortmund. The German outfit have seven points, PSG sit second on six points, Milan have five and Newcastle lie at the bottom with four. Most probably the last round will decide about the final outcome in the group.
Paris Saint-Germain were good at home, but poor away. They managed to beat Dortmund and Milan at Parc des Princes, but suffered defeats at San Siro and St James Park. However, now they play at home and three points from this match would put them in strong position ahead of the last round. The domestic form is good and the players confidence is very high following a high 5:2 win against Monaco. PSG have now won seven of their last eight matches, scoring at least three goals in all seven victories. But coach Luis Enrique has some injury issues, with teenage sensation Warren Zaire-Emery the latest victim. The 17-year-old midfielder joins Marco Asensio, Nuno Mendes, Presnel Kimpembe, Danilo Pereira and Marquinhos on the sidelines.
Newcastle United have started the Champions League campaign in a solid way, but back-to-back defeats from Borussia Dortmund have complicated the matters. The Magpies were also inconsistent in the Premier League, though they registered victories against Arsenal and Chelsea. It is likely that Newcastle will need to win both remaining games in order to reach the knock-out phase. But it won't be easy as Eddie Howe has huge injury problems ahead of the trip to the French Capital. He will be without nine or ten players. Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy, Callum Wilson and Matt Targett are definitely sidelined due to injuries, while Sandro Tonali is suspended due to illegal gambling activities. Finally, Sean Longstaff is rated as doubtful due to an ankle problem.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle United Prediction:
Both coaches have lot of injured players, however Edie Howe's handicap is much bigger. This is the first reason for my pick, while the home advantage is the second. PSG are yet to concede at home in the Champions League, while Newcastle are yet to score away from home in the competition. Finally, PSG have a player able to make a difference - Kylian Mbappe. He has been directly involved in seven goals from 12 Champions League games against English clubs to date, scoring five times and laying on two assists. The French champions should win here.
