Marquette at UConn

February 8, 2022

The Marquette Golden Eagles face-off versus the Connecticut Huskies in a Big East Conference battle tonight. The Golden Eagles are blazing hot having won eight of nine with the only loss coming to Providence 65-63 on Jan. 30. However, during this stretch, they’ve covered the spread in all nine games and opened as a 6-pt underdog for this matchup. The Huskies have lost two in a row after a five-game winning streak and are looking to snap that streak against a team they already beat this season by the score of 78-70 in Milwaukee. This time around they play at UConn where Marquette holds a 4-2 advantage all time.

UConn has a clear advantage against their opponents with their interior defense, holding teams to 41.5% shooting. They’re also one of the best teams on the offensive glass while grabbing 38.2% of offensive rebounds and the best in the Big East in block rate and second in the nation with 6.7 blocks per game. On the other side, the Golden Eagles are best in the Big East with a 12.3 steals percentage on defense. Both teams are clicking on the offense and defense coming into this matchup.

Marquette loves playing in these big games and has flourished. They’re the only team to beat Villanova and Seton Hall twice, beat Providence once and split two games with Xavier. Marquette is coming off an 83-73 win versus Villanova on Wednesday night and hasn’t played since then so they should be fully rested. Recent history shows that the road team has covered 7 out of the last 10 games in this series, but the Huskies won and covered 6 of the last 10 games between the two.

I’ll take the rested and ready Golden Eagles plus the points to go out and get some revenge tonight against the Huskies.
